Consumer Foods

Lou Nieto became affiliated with Akoya in 2010 and is our consumer foods Sector Leader. Lou was Group President of Dean Foods Company, President/CEO of Federated Group and, President of Consumer Foods for ConAgra. He also has experience with Quaker Oats, Kraft Foods, and Mission Foods.

Akoya has identified a Consumer Food sector strategy that capitalizes on key societal trends and select product categories that are well positioned relative to these key trends. We have chosen to focus on product categories that meet the following criteria:

  • The product category benefits from several of the key societal trends
  • The category size is sufficiently large (>$500 MM) to provide growth opportunities
  • The market share structure of the category represents an attractive scenario with the #1 brand share at The selected company or business is not marketing intensive, but rather focuses primarily on private label and/or foodservice business
  • Company gross margins are 40-50%, or can reach that range within 1 year
  • Existing capacity is sufficient to support at least two to three years of growth
